WHEN YOUR TRANSOM PLATE LOOKS LIKE THIS (LEFT) FROM THE REAR SIDE WHERE THE HOSE STICKS THRU A TUNNEL

CAST IN THE OUTER PLATE.  OR THE OTHER PICTURE (RIGHT) SHOWS THE DAMAGE WHERE THE HOSE IS CRUSHED INTERNALLY 

BY THE CORROSION THIS IS CALLED BRAVOITIS.

THIS IS LIKE THE CHEST PAINS INDICATE YOU HAVE CLOGED VAINS IN THE HEART, THESE

CORROSION COLLECTIONS MEANS  THAT THE HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE ELBOWS OF THE MANIFOLDS AND

ENGINE TEMPERATURES

ESPECIALLY AT HIGH RPMS BUT LATER AT EVEN LOW SPEEDS.. THE PROBLEM IS THE CORROSION AROUND THE

HOSE WHERE IT MAKES ITS ROUTE THROUGH THE OUTER PLATE.  THE CORROSION DOES NOT JUST MAKE IT NASTY

LOKING BUT IT GROWS AND FORCES THE HOSE TIP INWARD WITH SUCH FORCE THAT IT CRUSHES THE HOSE INTERNAL

PLUG/CLAMP WHICH IS INTENDED TO HOLD AND PRESS THE HOSE OUTWARD AND CRIMP IT IN THE CAVITY OR TUNNEL,

TO AFIX IT TO THE PLATE.  THE CORROSION FILLS THE WET SPACE OUTSIDE THE HOSE AND CRUSHES THE INTERNAL

CLAMP/PLUG TO RESTRICT  OR COMPLETELY STOPS THE WATER FLOW.

ASIDE FROM THE INCREASED TEMPERATURES IN THE ENGINE AND MANIFOLDS,  THE REDUCED FLOW OF WATER IN THE 

RUBBER IMPELLER PUMP  CAUSES THE INTERNAL WATER PUMP TO SELF DESTRUCT BECAUSE THE PUMP IS DESIGNED TO

PUMP HIGH VOLUME COLD WATER.  THE HEAT GENERATED INSIDE THE PUMP FROM FRICTION OF THE RUBBER SLIDING

ALONG THE INTERNAL SIDES WILL BUILD UP WITHOUT THE  HIGH FLOW TO CARRY THE HEAT AWAY AND THE IMPELLER WILL

PREMATURELY CRACK ALONG THE FLUTES AND BLADES WILL SLING OFF.

THE WAY TO TEST IF YOU HAVE RESTRICTED INPUT HOSE IS EASY.  WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING, FEEL THE HOSE FROM

THE PUMP TO THE PLASTIC ADAPTER OD THE REAR PLATE.  IF WHEN THE ENGINE IS REVED UP TO HIGH RPMS THE HOSE

TRIES TO CAVE IN 0R IS EASIER TO CRUSH WITH YOUR HAND THIS IS A BAD SIGN.  THE BEST TEST IS TO JUST REMOVE THE

TWO SCREWS THROUGH THE HOSE ADAPTER ON THE PLATE AND LOOK AT THE CENTRAL PASSAGE

OF THE HOSE BELOW

WHEN YOU DISCOVER THE PROBLEM DESCRIBED  AND PICTURED DOES OCCUR IN YOUR DRIVE YOU HAVE TWO CHOICES.  

ONE REPLACE THE HOSE AND PUT BACK ORIGINAL DESIGN HOSE AND EXPECT THE SAME PROBLEM NEXT YEAR OR SO OR

TWO USE OUR REPAIR KIT #IM654 AND THE BOAT WILL BE FIXED FOREVER.

WHEN THE PLUG ON THE FORWARD END OF THE HOSE IS REMOVED THE HOSE CAN BE PULLED REARWARD AND THE CAVITY

 ARE CLEANED AND THE FORWARD GASKET SURFACE WHERE THE HOSE ADAPTER IS MOUNTED IS SCRAPED, THE FRONT AND

THE REAR OF THE PLATE LOOK LIKE THESE.

THE CAVITY WHERE THE HOSE PASSES TIGHTLY THRU THE HOLE ON THE LEFT AND COMES FLUSH WITH THE RIGHT

PICTURE  WHERE THE FACTORY SCREWS A HOLLOW PLUG INTO THE INSIDE OF THE HOSE AND SPREADS THE END OF

THE HOSE UNTIL IT CONTACTS THE INSIDE OF THE TUNNEL.

WE HAVE INVENTED A FIXTURE MADE OF STRONG AND THICK S.S. WHICH LOOKS LIKE THE FOLLOWING

THE S.S. FIXTURE IS DESIGNED TO FIT THE INNER SURFACE WHERE THE PLASTIC ADAPTER FITS ON THE INSIDE THE TRANSOM

PLATE BETWEEN SPECIAL WASHERS ONE OF RUBBER AND ONE OF SPECIAL GASKET MATERIAL

THE GASKETS HAVE A ONE SIDE GLUED SO THEY STICK ON EITHER SIDE AND YOU JUST PLACE IT INTO THE HOSE PASSAGE

WITH THE 3/4 INCH S.S. TUBE FACING IT REARWARD TOWARD THE PLATE.  ALLIGN THE  SCREWS BACK THRU THE

ADAPTER AND TIGHTEN THE SCREWS TO SECURE THE THE PLASTIC HOSE ADAPTER BELOW.

THE RESULT IS THE FITTING IS WATERPROFF AND DOES NOT REQUIRE ANY HOSE IUN THE CAVITY WHICH ELIMINATED ANY

THE CORROSION REINVADING THE PLATE.  IF YOUR ENGINE IS IN PLACE THE FIX IS VERY EASY. BUT NO MATTER HOW BAD

THE CONNECTION LOOKS, ANY BOATS WITH THE ENGINE REMOVED FOR ANY REASON SHOULD BE FIXED IN ADVANCE

TO PREVENT THE PROBLEM.

WITH THE FIXTURE INSTALLED IF YOU LOOK AT THE REAR THIS IS WHAT YOU SEE.

THE ONE INCH LONG EXTENSION HANGS OUT CLEAR OF CORROSION

SHOWN IS THE STANDARD HOSE

 

THE HOSE IS IN PLACE AND HEATED, THE FINISHED PRODUCT LOOKS AS FOLLOWS

THE KIT LOOKS LIKE THIS AS ALL TOGETHER. IT IS CALLED IM654

c IT COMES ALL ASSEMBLED FOR YOUR

CONVENIENCE.  JUST FEED THE HOSE THROUGH FROM THE INSIDE

UNTIL THE GASKETED PLATE COMES TO THE PLATE.  PERMATEX BOTH

SIDES AND SECURE WITH THE PLASTIC HOSE FITTING THEN CONNECT

TO THE BELL HSE WITH SUPPLIED PLUG AND TOOL.
