SOLENOIDS FOR TRIM OR STARTERS

SOLENOIDS IN MERCRUISER ARE USUALLY OF 3 TYPES

FORD TYPE

IM104  AVAILABLE GROUNDED

PRESTOLITE TYPE

IM105 AVAILABLE GROUNDED

MERCURY MOLDED

IM106 NOT AVAILABLE GROUNDED

ALL 3 SOLENOIDS ACT THE SAME

CONNECTS THE POWER INPUT ON ONE LARGE TERMINAL

.TO THE OTHER LARGE TERMINAL DURING ANY TIME 12V AND GROUND

ARE CONNECTED TO THE SMALL CONTACTS OR TERMINALS

THEY ARE A REMOTE SWITCH WHEN THE CURRENT NEEDED TO

OPERATE A MOTOR IS TO HIGH FOR SOME WIRE OR  OTHER COMPONENT

GROUNDED SOLENOIDS ARE OPERATED DIFFERENTLY

THE TRIGER 12 V GOES ON THE S TERMINAL BUT THE GROUND COMES IN THE BRACKET.

DURING ACTINATING THE GROUNDED SOLENOIDS THE 12 V POS

IS SENT OUT OF THE OTHER TERMINAL MARKED I USUALLY AS A COIL VOLTAGE BOOSTER

TO BYPASS THE IGN BALAST RESISTOR TO THE COIL DURING START MODE.

THIS GIVES 12 V ON COIL IN START MODE AND RETURNS TO THE 8 VOLTS ON RUN MODE

ON TRIM PUMPS THE SOLENOIDS LIMIT CURRENT THRU DELICATE TRIM SWITCHES

BECAUSE THE TRIM SWITCH ONLY POWERS THE SOLENOID BUT THE SOLENOID CARRIES THE

CURREDT ON THE OUTPUT LARGER TERMINALS.
