INBOARD SHAFTING TO 8" WAS MANUFACTURED AND PROPELLERS WERE REPAIRED UP TO 65" WE SECURED A FRANCHISE FOR MERCURY AND MERCRUISER AND BECAME CERTIFIED AS A REPAIR SHOP.
THE OWNER HAS A DEGREE IN PHYSICS AND WHENEVER POSSIBLE WHEN ORDERING PARTS ON THE AFTERMARKET SCENE, MAKES MINOR ALTERATIONS IN THE PARTS TO MAKE THEM MUCH MORE INSTALLER FRIENDLY. AND INCORPORATE CHANGES WHICH REPAIR EXPERIENCE INDICATED AS NECESSARY OR AT LEAST ADVANTAGEOUS.
ONE OF THE FIRST CHANGES WAS THE OUTDRIVE MOUNTING GASKET SET, WE INVENTED THE SET OF GASKETS NOW AVAILABLE EVERYWHERE. PRIOR TO THIS LOOSE GASKETS AND 'O' RINGS HAD TO BE ORDERED. WE ALSO INVENTED THE UNIVERSAL KIT IM5050 WHICH FITS #1 AND ALPHA
WE INVENTED THE SHIFT CABLE REPAIR KIT, WITH ALL PARTS NECESSARY TO FIX THE OUTDRIVE SHIFT SYSTEM IM519 AND OFFER INSTRUCTIONS FOR REPLACEMENT, ADJUSTMENT, AND EASY SHIFT SWITCH ADJUSTMENT.
WE OFFERED THE FIRST TRANSOM REPAIR KIT IM1000 OR IM1000E AND ALSO OFFER THE COMPLETE INSTILLATION INSTRUCTIONS. ANY TIME THE RUBBER IN THE TRANSOM ASSEMBLY GOES FAULTY THE BOAT COULD SINK OR THE OUTDRIVE DELICATE PARTS COULD BE INVADED BY WATER.
THE MOST CRITICAL PART OF ANY STERNDRIVE IS THE UNIVERSAL JOINT SECTION. WATER IN THIS SECTION WILL RUIN THE GIMBAL BEARING, THE UNIVERSAL JOINT BEARINGS, AND FALL THROUGH THE SEALS INTO THE GEARS CAUSING RUST ON SHAFTS , BEARINGS , AND GEARS.
WE INVENTED THE YOKE REPAIR KIT IM832C WHICH REPLACES THE SECTION OF THE UNIVERSAL ASSEMBLY THAT HOLDS THE FORWARD INPUT SEAL, THESE BECOME GROOVED OR RUSTED OVER TIME, MAKING THE SEALING JOB IMPOSSIBLE. THIS IS VERY BAD BECAUSE WHEN IT LEAKS THE UPPER DRIVE SHAFT HOUSING DUMPS ITS OIL INTO THE BELLOWS WHERE IT CANNOT BE DETECTED. THIS LEAK CAUSES THE DRIVE TO OPERATE DRY AND GEARS MELT. INCLUDED IN THIS KIT IS THE COMPLETE DOUBLE SEAL SET AND GASKETS ALONG WITH NEW CROSS AND BEARINGS. INSTRUCTIONS ARE ALSO AVAILABLE FOR THIS JOB.
THE SEALS FOR THE UPPER DRIVE SHAFT OF MERCRUISER #1 AND ALPHA IMUS2 ARE ONE OF OUR FINEST IMPROVEMENTS. IT HAS LONG BEEN KNOWN THAT EVEN WITH A NEW YOKE AND NEW FRONT SEAL, WATER WHICH FINDS ITS WAY INTO THE UNIVERSAL JOINT BELLOWS FALLS RIGHT THROUGH INTO THE DRIVE GEAR SECTION, AND SINCE THE UPPER AND LOWER SECTIONS ARE CONNECTED BY AN OIL PASSAGE , THIS WATER GOES INTO THE LOWER GEAR HOUSING ALSO. THE REASON FOR THIS PROBLEM IS THAT THE FRONT SEAL IS PROVIDED TO KEEP OIL IN, NOT WATER OUT. WE ASKED THE SEAL MANUFACTURER TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM, AND THE EASY SOLUTION WAS TO PROVIDE A SEAL OF THE SAME QUALITY BUT DOUBLE (TWO SEALS, TWO SPRINGS FACING BOTH WAYS) AS SIMPLE AS THIS SOUNDS NO ONE ELSE DOES IT. WE THOUGHT IT WAS SUCH A GOOD IDEA WE MADE ALL THREE SEALS IN THE SET THE SAME IMUS2. THERE WAS ONE OTHER MINOR PROBLEM WITH THE SEALS IN THAT THEY OFTEN WITH HEAT COME LOOSE FROM THEIR SHELL WHICH MEANS THEY CAN LEAK BETWEEN THE SHELL AND RUBBER. SO WE COATED OUR SEALS WITH RUBBER WHICH IS ONE WITH THE SEAL MATERIAL AND PINCHED BETWEEN THE CUP AND HOUSING UPON INITIAL INSTILLATION SO THE RUBBER CANNOT DELAMINATE FROM THE MOUNT. OUR LOWER SEAL SET IMLS2 FOR THE MERCRUISER GEAR HOUSING WAS ALSO CHANGED FOR THE BEST. ONE WATER PUMP BASE SEALS WAS DOUBLED. THE SHIFT SHAFT SEAL WAS REPLACED WITH A BETTER DESIGN WHICH HOLDS DOUBLE SEALS, AND THE TWO PROP SEALS WERE REPLACED BY A ONE PIECE ANODIZES STAINLESS SHELL WHICH IS INSTALLED AS ONE PIECE AND CONTAINS THREE SEALS AND A LINE CUTTER. THE OTHER END OF THIS PART HAS A SHOULDER WHICH CAN BE USED TO PULL IT OUT FOR FUTURE REPLACEMENT WITHOUT DISASSEMBLY OF THE DRIVE. INSTRUCTIONS FOR REPAIR
