THE DIFFERENCES

IN OUTSIDE RETURN HOSES

USED ON MERCRUISER OUTDRIVES

AFTER 1986

PRIOR TO THE STANDARD 45 DEG TIP HOSES.  FOR ONE YEAR THE ORIGINAL

OUTSIDE HOSES WERE BENT 90 DEG ON THE TIP AND ENTERED THE REAR OF THE

CYL AT A STRAIGHT ANGLE.  THE LOWER PROFILE 45 DEG HOSES WERE THEN

STARTED WITH THE LARGER DIAMETER ALPHA RAMS USED WITH THE OILDYNE

LOW PRESSURE PUMPS.  THESE HOSES COME IN A PORT OR STB SIDWARD BEND.

THE LENGTH OF THE GROUPS OF HOSES WERE APPX 5/8 INCH DIFFERENCE IN

THE LENGTH WHICH WERE USED DIFFERENT RAMS.

THE LENGTH COULD BE CHECKED EITHER WITH THE HOSE INSTALLED OR ON

THE BENCH ON AN UNINSTALLED HOSE.

THE STARTING POINT OF THE MEASUREMENT IS THE CENTER OF THE HOSE

WHICH GOES ALONG THE SIDE OF THE RAMS VERTICALLY AND BENDS ALONG

INTO THE NUT FITTING ON THE TIP.  YOU CAN EITHER MEASURE TO THE POINT

WHERE THE TUBE ENTERS THE NUT WITH THE HOSE INSTALLED OR THE FLARED

TIP WHICH IS VISABLE WITH THE HOSE REMOVED.

THE MEASUREMENTS ARE THESE:

THE SHORT HOSES MEASURE EITHER 10-5/8" TO THE NUT OR 11-1/4" TO THE TIP

WITH CAST NUMBERS 98703 OR 98704

THE LONG HOSES MEASURE EITHER 11-1/8" TO THE NUT OR 11-3/4" TO THE TIP

WITH CAST NUMBERS 14034 OR 140355
