12" STANDARD OUTSIDE HOSE 90 DEG USED IN SETS OF 4 1985 BACK |
MERCRUISER POWER TRIM HOSES ARE USED TO ROUTE THE HYDRAULIC OIL FROM THE POWER TRIM PUMP OR TILT PUMP THROUGH THE CONNECTOR MANIFOLD TO THE HYDRAULIC TRIM OR TILT CYLINDERS. ALTHOUGH WE SELL THE OLDER TRIM HOSES FROM THE LATE 1960 ERA BOATS. THE MOST COMMON TRIM HOSES SOLD TODAY ARE THE ONES LISTED. IN EARLY 1970 ERA THE TRIM HOSES CAME THROUGH THE LOWER TRANSOM PLATE ( MOVED FROM THE EARLIER SIDE TRANSOM PLATE ENTRY) WITH A SIX PORT MANIFOLD WHICH CONTAINED TWO THREE HOSE CONNECTORS AND EACH OF THE UPPER HOSES COUPLED TO A LEFT AND RIGHT TRIM HOSE BELOW. THE FORWARD TWO CONNECTORS (CLOSER TO THE BOAT WERE HIGH PRESSURE UP OIL AT 3000# PRESSURE). CONNECTED TO THE TWO MOST FORWARD FITTINGS ON THE TWO RAMS OR TRIM CYLINDERS
THE OTHER REAR SECTION CONNECTED TO THE LOW PRESSURE LEFT AND RIGHT AND DELIVERED 900# OF DOWN PRESSURE TO THE LEFT AND RIGHT TRIM RAMS THROUGH TWO MORE TRIM HOSES. AFTER THE HOSES WERE CHANGED TO THE STAINLESS TRIM HOSES THE LIFE OF THE TRIM HOSES WAS MUCH LONGER.
WITH THE HIGH PRESSURE PRESTOLITE PUMP THERE WERE SEVEN STAINLESS POWER TRIM HOSES IN THE BOAT THE OUTSIDE TRIM HOSES WERE ABOUT 12" LONG AND WERE EQUIPPED WITH 4 STAINLESS S.A.E. NUTS ON DOUBLE INVERTED FLARE FITTINGS WHICH FIT 3/8 FLARE WRENCHES. THE ORIGINAL HOSES WERE BENT ABOUT 80 DEGREES ON THE CYLINDER END. THE INSIDE HOSES WERE FROM THE MANIFOLD TO THE PUMP (44" OR 19") AND MANIFOLD TO REVERSE LOCK VALVE (29")
IN 1985 WHEN THE LOW PRESSURE OILDYNE PUMP WAS STARTED THE SHORT OUTSIDE HOSES WERE CHANGED TO ABOUT 50 DEGREES AND THE DOWN TRIM HOSES WERE MADE LONGER TO BRING THE DOWN OIL PRESSURE INTO THE POWER TRIM CYLINDERS ON THE REAR END (OUTSIDE RETURN LINES) AND ENTERED THE RAMS AT 90 DEGREES FROM THE BOTTOM.
AFTER 1986 THE TRIM CYLINDERS WERE CHANGED TO THE LARGER ALPHA RAMS AND ALTHOUGH THE OUTSIDE TRIM LINES WERE STILL USED THE ENTRY ANGLE WAS CHANGED TO 45 DEGREES BECAUSE THE TRIM HOSES WERE HITTING THE HOUSINGS. THESE 45 DEGREE HOSES OR TRIM LINES ARE USED CURRENTLY HOWEVER THEY COME IN TWO LENGTH HOSES FROM THE CENTERLINE OF THE TUBE WHERE IT PASSES UP THE FRONT OF THE CYLINDER BEHIND THE S.S. PLATES TO THE VERY TIP OF THE TRIM HOSE IS EITHER 11" OR 11-1/2". BOTH HOSES ARE AVAILABLE.
BECAUSE THE 12" POWER TRIM LINES WERE SO CLOSE, AN BECAUSE WE HAVE INTERCHANGED THEM FOR YEARS WITHOUT PROBLEMS WE HAD ONE HOSE BUILT TO REPLACE BOTH TRIM LINES AND SET IT AT 52 DEGREES. IF IT DOES NOT MATCH, LIGHT THUMB PRESSURE WILL ADJUST IT SINCE THE TUBE IS SOFT. THE OUTSIDE RETURN LINES COME IN TWO LENGTHS AND LEFT AND RIGHT. WE THOUGHT THE LEFT AND RIGHT WAS UNNECESSARY SINCE AFTER INSTILLATION THE HOSE TIP CAN BE BENT RIGHT OR LEFT, SO WE MADE ONE STRAIGHT HOSE WHICH YOU BEND TO NEED.
